Jacky moved to London in 2018, after having lived in Birmingham for 6 years. Here his teaching portfolio was wide ranging. He worked in a freelance capacity for Birmingham Hippodrome, the city’s flagship theatre, putting on workshops, projects and performances with Birmingham Schools, secondary and primary. In addition, he was a tutor/pianist at Birmingham's School Of Theatre Excellence which prepares students for auditions to the UK's leading drama, acting and musical theatre institutions. Furthermore, he worked closely with a large inner-city Birmingham primary school in order to raise the profile of music in Key Stages 1 and 2. To that end, he directed and produced ambitious end of term shows from musicals to nativity plays; he taught piano lessons and contributed to the Enrichment programme by running both a choir and an after school piano club.
His teaching portfolio is completed by private tuition which ranges in abilities and ages. He has a wealth of experience with the ABRSM and Guildhall/Trinity syllabuses, as well as GCSE, A-Level and Undergraduate preparation.
Learning an instrument needs to combine rigour with some degree of fun in order to encourage regular practice and create the sheer enjoyment of playing, whether that be solo or group playing. Over the years I have been exposed to many tutors both inspirational and dull and therefore understand what encourages students and what hinders them. Being a young adult active in the music scene across the UK, I personally love all types of music, and enjoy seeing students progress and become more comfortable and natural with their instrument.
